Shyamla Menon offers academic advising and college consulting services to high school students and their parents.

 

The process of applying to college today can be a daunting and stress-laden one. I aim to reduce the anxiety and stress by structuring a plan with the student so that he or she can own, direct and execute it.

 

My mission is to provide individualized support through the entire application process. I work with the student from the initial stages of test preparation strategy through creating a fluid list of colleges to brainstorming ideas for essays all the way to interview practice and analyzing the eventual college choices.

 

I believe that students should own this process and be vested in it. At the same time, I recognize that today’s high school students are incredibly busy and constrained with various demands on their time. My process keeps the student on track with myriad deadlines and processes. I help reduce the uncertainties inherent in this process, while keeping the student’s objectives in mind.

 

My aim is to work with the student and the parents to find a number of colleges where the student can succeed and be happy at. There are many factors that are important in the college search. I believe in finding a fit that works – both academically and socially.
